 Block
Parties
Your
people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will
raise up the age-old foundations; you will be
called Repairer of the Broken Walls, Restorer
of Streets with Dwellings. -Isaiah 52:12

Three
Components of a
BLOCK PARTY:
|
Phase
I - Planning
This
is the most crucial part of a successful block party
and includes many pieces:
• Logistics
• Promotion via banners, balloons, flyers, and
so on.
• Media coverage
• Contact and involve dignitaries from the Police
District Commander and the Fire Chief to all of the
elected officials that are represented citywide.
• Community Associations
• Health Care and Service provides: blood pressure
and eye screening, addiction treatment organizations,
local clinics, and healthcare providers
• Education: GED programs, college recruiters,
reading programs for the young people
• Pastors and local churches
• Business sponsors and contributions
Phase
II - Invasion
The
Block Party
A
block party is just that—it is a party in which
we bring resources and Christ-centered entertainment
to the block to begin the process of change. When
the date is set, we send teams of prayer warriors
onto the block and surrounding areas to pray and pass
out literature promoting the event.
As soon as the date is set, we plan the agenda: who
will perform, speak, sing, dance, act and so on. Booths
that will fill immediate and long-term needs are planned
and representatives from all the different areas are
secured.
Bags of groceries, clothing, hot dogs and drinks are
handed out from the booths. People are linked to organizations
providing employment, education, medical information
as well as referrals for addictions treatment, child
services and local community contacts. We also unite
the local pastors with the people from the neighborhood
who are seeking spiritual guidance.
Phase
III - Occupation
Follow-Up
Program
No matter how successful the Block Party itself may
have
been, it is ultimately the follow-up program that
reveals the fruit of the event and whether or not
a true adoption has taken place.
The four main ingredients for the follow-through are:
People, Commitment, Unity, and Relationship.
Mixing all four together for the right blend will
help in creating vision and then providing the services
that are need for area residents and surrounding neighborhoods.
Some services could include but are not limited to:
• Transportation to church
• Personal visits to families on the block
• Meet immediate needs such as home repair,
food and clothes, substance abuse referrals, job referrals,
and so on.
